TCCDM Pulls One Out..."Live" - Frumpy (1973 - Rei 1985)
"Live" - Frumpy (1973 - Rei 1985)
Out of Hamburg, Germany...Frumpy is a fantastic band that throws down some jammy acid rock and heavy prog spank and frames it with some killer vocals from Inga Rumpf. Inga's vocal timbre is tailor-made to rock your asses on down the road. They're real. And they're spectacular. This was Frumpy's last album, a double live square that captures the band at the top of their game before disbanding in 1972.
Frumpy toured with some great bands like Yes, Spooky Tooth, Humble Pie, but I don't know that they ever crossed the pond to perform in the States. It would've been a brushfire if they had. Three studio albums and this live recording. Frumpy albums are all highly regarded and originals can get a bit pricey, but deals can be had. Finding one in the wild, however, might be a unicorn.
"Live" - Frumpy (back)
Favorites include "Duty" clocking in at nearly 18 minutes The guitar jamming on this one is a real smile-maker, that is equally matched by some tasty keyboard riff burns of its own. In fact, the Hammond is excellent all through this album without taking over. A long track but never tedious. I love "Keep on Going" which opens up this lucky-charms box. Whenever I'm not sure what side to play...I'm reminded of this one and dig on it. "Take Care Of Illusion" is just an entertaining banger that has all the members on high alert. Another one I easily gravitate to. "Singing Songs" is a beautiful and soulful bluesy-esque track that smolders into something a little more dangerous. Takes me right the fuck away.
My copy is a second pressing from 1985 I found online. I waited and waited to hopefully stumble on one in the wild, but that just never happened for me. It burned my billfold for $37 shipped and I was glad to pay it. My copy was shipped out of Tempe, AZ so I was ablt to avoid the overseas charges. The label has a few variations. It has 'Printed in West Germany' on the label, rather than Germany. And GEMA is printed in a smaller type than other pressings. Holding in your hands an album you've waited a long, long time to own is a feeling only collectors of the musical square can truly appreciate. And this bad puppy has finally found a home.
