I Went...SI--SI--SIRIUS...All The Way Home (again) #57
(a short jaunt)
"Feelin' Blue" - CCR / "Willy and the Poor Boys" (1969)
"Hey, look over yonder behind the wall,
They're closin' in, I'm about to fall.
Now I'm no coward, but I ain't no fool
Feel it in my bones, my book is due."
Man, but does this beat ever swing. They may be feeling blue, so why does this make me feel so happy? I don't remember ever hearing this one before. Nothing special about this song, but it scratches all the itches. When it comes to CCR, the music seldom lets you down. The band released three studio albums in 1969. Three! Let that sink in a moment. And this one was released just three months after "Green River" hit the shelves. Holy shitola, these guys were on fire! (NEED)
"Hard Times in America" - Willie Nile / "Live From The Streets Of New York" (2008)
"They say it's getting better.
We're closing the gap.
You know as well as I do
That's just a load of crap."
New Yorker Willie Nile recorded this little gem back in 1992, and here we are still playing Ring around the Rosey. "Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was." This time Willie takes the song to the house on his "Live From The Streets Of New York" album and it's just killer. Great middle freak out. Willie Nile is a treasure, but it's hard to find any of his albums out here in the midwest. Worth grabbing'em when you do. I've never seen this one. (NEED)
"From Silver Lake" - Jackson Browne / "Saturate Before Using" (1972)
"Did you see our brother?
He was here the other day,
but he only came to say that he can't breathe here.
Did you see his lady?
She was reaching for his hand,
just as if to tell her man that she can't either."
Jackson Browne cuts at the heart like Hanibal Lecter at a buffet table. And if your emotional balance is in flux or the least bit unprepared, his lyrics can overwhelm you with their beautiful observations that bleed both sad and euphoric. JB's debut album. (OWN)
"WILMA, I'M HOME!"
