200 Lost Gems & Forgotten Diamonds: --> Pt 8

"The guitar is just a wonderful instrument.
It's everything...
but it's elusive."
~ Les Paul ~

A reminder...songs will be from the 70s decade...but not exclusively.  No ranking or countdown.  Only a number to keep track of how far along I've gotten.  I strongly encourage everyone to purchase the albums for an even better understanding.

Let's continue...

130:--> "Tired Eyes"Neil Young / "Tonight's The Night" (1975)
"Tell me more.  I mean was he a heavy doper
or was he just a loser?
He was a friend of yours."
Achingly beautiful.  Painfully real. Haunts long after the first listen.  Sadly, about a friend involved in a drug deal gone bad.

129:--> "Emerald Eyes" - Fleetwood Mac / "Mystery To Me" (1973)
"The way she sails away slow...
makes your day-to-day life easy."
Dreamy vocals with tasty trademark mysterioso guitar work from Welch.  And great drum fill from Fleetwood.  Pass me the headphones.

128:--> "Tongue-In-Cheek" - Sugarloaf / "Spaceship Earth" (1971)
"I would give you nearly everything
if you would only tell me just how much
you really, really, really, really love me."
The guitar and vintage organ work are outstanding.  Wonderful hippie vibes. Better with each listen.

127:--> "There's No Way Out Of Here" - David Gilmour / "David Gilmour" (1978)
"There's no way out of here...
when you come in you're in for good."
Instantly timeless with a 'down-in-a-well' guitar intro that's killer.  Gilmour's killer bridge doesn't hurt either.

126:--> "Paradise/The Spell" / Uriah Heep / "Demons And Wizards" (1972)
"Secret hearts and sorry tales
will never help love grow.
Spread your wings my darkened soul
the time has come to go."
Guitar acoustics build toward wicked keyboard action.
Add some fantastic vocals and you have a nice epic sandwich.
The cool echo/response traveling from speaker to speaker is always a good thing.

125:--> "The Revenge Of Vera Gemini"Blue Oyster Cult / (1976)
"Oh no more horses.
We're gonna swim like a fish
into the hole in which you planned to ditch me."
A driving wheel of delicious BOC creepiness.  Patti Smith dots the eyes.

124:--> "Lonely Tenement" - David Johansen / "David Johansen" (1978)
"She knew love until it got a little slow.
And why he left she'll never know."
Johansen sells this one to the nines.  His band rips the curtains.

123:--> "Buick Mackane" - T. Rex / "The Slider" (1972)
"You're just a sexual glider.
Be my plane in the rain."
Bolan's gutter-coolness and sleazy metal guitar is all over this.  Get your fingers dirty.

122:--> "She Talks In Stereo" / Gary Myrick / Gary Myrick & The Figures (1980)
"I look in your eyes.
She would look at my face.
You could see clearly.
Is it our twenty/twenty vision?"
Like a hungry Tom Petty backed by The Cars...just wicked, wicked good.

121:--> "Wreckage"J. Geils Band / "Monkey Island" (1977)
"Only few return.  Only few will learn
about the wreckage along the way."
Geils brings a haunting attitude to the table with this rock breaker and closes out the album in chilly-balls fashion.  Wow.

Good stuff.

Damn, damn, damn! You surely struk an arrow in my heart with this round. Uriah Heep! You don't know how many times I've wanted to write about those guys but thought 'Nah - no one knows em'. T-Rex goes without saying - a god. Early Fleetwood Mac? Someone else knows the glory years? And David Johansson - when he ruled im my opinion.

Great, great post. Thank you for the work.

Happy Christmas (War Is Over)
