Ramblings: JT and His All-Request Saturday Night Show & Other Obs

Image
"I live my life the way that I choose. I'm satisfied, nothing to lose." --> Bad Company One of the best things to happen to Saturday night is... JT's All-Request Show. Delicious Classic Rock from various eras...mostly 60's & 70's & 80's...but certainly not exclusively. JT's radio show is mainly controlled by the listeners...via call-ins and emails. With the majority requesting all-kinds of wonderful lost gems and deep cuts. You may recognize the rock artist playing...but be pleasantly surprised by the sometimes unfamiliar spin slammin' through your speakers. It's a rock fans treat. But let there be no doubt...it is Ol' JT that makes this 6 hour music party a winner. Maybe ...because he's a little bit different. He's down-to-earth. One of the guys. And real. A simple lover of RnR. None of the blowhardy wisecracken dime-a-dozen DJ's you mostly hear while flipping around the dial. No over-the-top buffoon laugh...

Happy Father's Day

To my father and my father's father. I love you . Cat Stevens - "Father and Son " Father Its not time to make a change, Just relax, take it easy. You're still young, that's your fault, There's so much you have to know. Find a girl, settle down, If you want you can marry. Look at me, I am old, but Im happy. I was once like you are now, and I know that its not easy, To be calm when you've found something going on. But take your time, think a lot, Why, think of everything you've got. For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not. Son How can I try to explain, when I do he turns away again. Its always been the same, same old story. From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen. Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away. I know I have to go. Father Its not time to make a change, Just sit down, take it slowly. You're still young, that's your fault, There's so much you have to go through. Find a girl, settle dow...

Lost Gem: "Knocked Down, Made Small" - Was (Not Was) (1983)

Image
"And when I began to crawl... He knocked my head against the wall  and said  you're much too small." ~ Was (Not Was) ~ Big fan of   Was (Not Was) .  BIG! David Weiss (aka David Was ). Don Fagenson (aka Don Was ). Sweet Pea Atkinson.   These guys are the Bizarro World   funkenstein frontmen on this ride. But there are a slew of fantastically bizarre musicians who dribble on and off this court like point guards in the NBA ...who help nail this pork pie hat. Looks like John Oates (minus Hall) in this video mix.  And I swear one of the three computer geek guys from "The X-Files" show up, too! Lost Gem:--> "Knocked Down, Made Small"   (1983) ... is a Motown throw-down   vocal burn that drives this rock tank more urgently than the lyrics might suggest.   Have you heard this one? My daddy took a look On the day that I was born. And said he looks like corn And his feet are made of clay. And then he wa...

Video Gold:-->Gary Moore

Image
" All men are equal 'til the victory is won . No color or religion ever stopped the bullet from a gun ." -->Gary Moore Gary Moore has been unfairly flying under the RnR radar. Hooking up with different bands since the early 70's....along with his continuing killer solo work...I finally climbed on board the GM wagon during his stint with Thin Lizzy . Most notably on the awesome..." Black Rose " (1979) . Lately, I've been snacking on some of Moore's solo soup...and highly recommend most of it. The wickedly lost gem... "Out In The Fields" ...was released on the blistering "Run For Cover" (1985). Especially choice... Phil Lynott adds guest vocals and some of his throwdown bass that always seems to bring out the best musically in Moore. The video...unfortunately...reeks of that early 80's cheesiness...but fughetabutit...the music is screwdriver tight. Sadly, this is one of the very few recordings made by Phil Lynott befor...

Interview:-->Arlo Guthrie

Image
"...like I was rappin' to the fuzz, right. Can you dig it? Man...there's supposed to be a million and a half people here by tonight.   Can you dig that? New York State thruway is closed, man!" -- Arlo Guthrie @ Woodstock -- If ever someone wanted an example of an expression of joy...one need only check out baby-faced Arlo Guthrie cutting across Yasgur's Farm ...guitar in tow...beating feet to reach the Woodstock stage area. Arlo was 22. Nearly 40 years have passed since those... "3 days of peace & music" ...and Arlo is still sporting a baby face. Still carrying a well-traveled torch of protest in verse...and still has that almost guilty look of joy plastered on his face. Arlo Guthrie made a long overdue appearance in Wichita, KS last week...performing at the legendary Orpheu m before a much appreciative audience. Many dressed in groovy 60's garb to mark the occasion. Before the show, I was allowed to share some downtime with Arlo ...
