"Batman And Robin" - The Sensational Guitars Of Dan & Dale (1966)
"Batman And Robin" was a cash-in money-grab, no argument there, but the music doesn't sound throw-away. The songs are much better than I expected. It was only after bringing this puppy home that I learned the musicians were made up of members from The Blues Project and from the Sun Ra Arkestra including Sun Ra himself! Nothing on here sounds that good, but the music is tastefully tight and sounds like they were having fun kickin' it. Tom Wilson, who produced Bob Dylan and The Velvet Underground, wears the cap on this one, too.
Mostly all instrumentals, "Batman And Robin" is a fun kitschy square with groovy organs, horns, and surf-like guitars jousting back and forth sounding like a jukebox at an Austin Powers street dance. "It's 1966, baby. Does my superhero costume make you horny? Yeah!" Plus how can you not love the artwork? It's a twofer.

Nice copies of "Batman And Robin" are getting harder to find in the wild. These albums were made for the little kiddies after all. But I found a nice one just before Christmas at a local antique shop. The cover artwork looked really clean, but the album was locked behind glass with a price tag hanging from it with the price turned away. (The Joker Strikes Again!)
It was beginning to feel like a hassle, but an employee happened by and grabbed a key. The vinyl looked nearly unplayed. The price tag was $22. It wasn't a squeal of a deal, but it was below the median so I snagged. As I followed her to the register, she pointed at a colored dot on the tag that entitled the customer to 15% off. At the end of the day, I paid $19 and some change and got a little jingle back to put in my pocket. A few cents, but hey. Anyway, if you're thinking this album is just a circle for the little rug rats to spin, better think again. Btw...it's rumored that June Tyson, who sang with Sun Ra, could be the singer on "Robin's Theme"
