TCCDM Pulls One Out..."A Lovely Sight" - Pisces (1969 - Archival 2009)

"A Lovely Sight" - Pisces (1969 - Archival 2009)

The lysergic journey one takes from the spinning of "A Lovely Sight" is one of ominous wonder and tension.  The music has an edgy ambiance that never quite lets go.  Even the gentlest of songs are never quite what they appear.  The lyrics are delightfully surprising without being weird for weird's sake.  Studio chicanery is used in perfect moderation to throw rushes at the listener.

From Illinois...Pisces oozes with studio confidence and charm that belies their anonymity.  The psychedelic embellishments are used in measured doses that season tracks rather than drown them.  However, there is an unintentional Spinal Tap moment on here that is cool for what it is, I suppose, but it can't avoid the stamp.  The vocals, both male and female, add nice yin and yang to the circular experience.  Lovers of psych will especially want to take this square out for a spin.  Not hard or heavy psych.  This is hazy incense vibing.  Numero Group did well in gathering up these lost tracks from the little-known band known as Pisces.

Favorites include:
"In The Dreams Of Paula"
"Dear One"
"The Music Box"
"Elephant Eyes"

My copy comes in a thick gatefold sleeve with nice liner notes and photos of the band.  Pisces never recorded an album during their time together, so all the music gathered here is previously unreleased tracks from their studio recordings...making this the only Pisces album we'll probably ever see.  An archival album and a wonderful offering.

How cool is that! It's easy to forget that someone teaching or perhaps a salesman (Any profession for that matter) might have had an earlier kind of life that might have you doing a massive double-take, you know it? Your comment is a perfect example of not judging too quickly. Pretty neato, says Richie Cunningham.
