"Bow Street Runners" - Bow Street Runners (1970 - Rei 2019)

"Now, look what we have here before us. We got the Saracens sitting next to the Jones Street Boys. We've got the Moonrunners right by the Van Cortlandt Rangers.  Nobody is wasting nobody."  That's what crossed my mind when I saw this album.  However, this gang...the Bow Street Runners...are from North Carolina...not Coney Island.  Bow Street Runners' self-titled album is a pretty decent affair.

The album is psych rock that comes at the listener in different directions.  Lively fuzz guitar and vibing organ one moment.  A little gloomy another.  A little jammy here.  A little dark and melancholic there.  And I dug the spin.  There is a couple of weaker tracks, one being a silly jug band sorta song that totally breaks the spell, but the rest is good stuff.

Favorites include the amazing ‘Another Face’ which has an atmospheric "Carnival of Souls" organ vibe floating around while stinging buzzsaw guitars jump in and out.  The excellent "Steve's Jam" is a psych guitar-driven track with groovy hypnotic vocals harmonizing above it all and is very cool. "Electric Star" is one of two songs with a female singer out in front.  She gives a cool...Fifty Foot Hose...sorta vibe to both songs, but nowhere is she credited on the album.

I picked up the Bow Street Runners reissue back in February of last year and I think they were asking $22 dollars.  And for being a Sundazed reissue, it was one of their more "reasonably" priced offerings.  I remember seeing the album mentioned in the Acid Archives so I snagged it.  Originals will hit your pocket for $2000 or more so whaddyagonnado?   Bow Street Runners don't break any new ground, but the psych delivered satisfies the itch and gives the listener an entertaining mind session.
