Lost Gem: "Seven Days" - Ron Wood (1979)

"Seven more days...
all I gotta do is survive."

-->Ron Wood<--

"Gimme Some Neck"...(love the title)...was legendary Ron Wood's third solo offering...released in 1979.

And though production (Roy Baker)...at times sounds tinny...Wood delivers a pretty solid record.

Of course, having all the other Stones at your command...plus other top notch musicians in the studio...doesn't hurt too much.

Wood's vocals and guitar work are strong...and there is an infectious...looseness...heard throughout this release that would make even the most cynical thumbnosers...crack a smile.

"Seven Days"...is a Ron Wood killer. Written by "Bobby D."...Wood sings it like he means it. Even out-Dylan's Dylan...sounding like the rhyme king after a two-night bender.

Go get this!

Have you heard this one?

Seven days, seven more days she'll be comin'
I'll be waiting at the station for her to arrive
Seven more days, all I gotta do is survive.

She been gone ever since I been a child
Ever since I seen her smile, I ain't forgotten her eyes.
She had a face that could outshine the sun in the skies.

There's kissing in the valley,
Thieving in the alley,
Fighting every inch of the way.
Trying to be tender
With somebody I remember
In a night that's always brighter 'n the day.

Seven days, seven more days that are connected
Just like I expected, she'll be comin' on strong,
Seven more days, all that'll be gone.

I been good, I been good while I been waitin'
Maybe guilty of hesitatin', I just been holdin' on
Seven more days, all that'll be gone.

There's kissing in the valley,
Thieving in the alley,
Fighting every inch of the way.
Trying to be tender
with somebody I remember.
In a night that's always brighter 'n the day.

Good stuff!

That was a killer version at the Dylan thing. I don't know Wood's studio version well, I'm sad to say, so I'll have to hunt it up. Dylan's live version on his first Bootleg package is pretty good, too. Thanks!

Whiteray...Wood's..."Gimme Some Neck"...though not perfect...has several keepers written by Ron.

I especially like another track..."We All Get Old"... it too should have garnered some attention.

Stay well my blog-brother
