TCCDM Pulls One Out..."Let Me In" - Poobah (1972 - Rei 2021)

"Let Me In" - Poobah (1972 - Rei 2021)

Poobah was a power rock trio outta Youngstown, Ohio and their debut album "Let Me In" has plenty of stoner rock to go around.  Plus there's a little psych-dusting here and there.  An atmospheric incense piece and maybe some protopunk as well.  Nothing ironed and folded neatly on this puppy.  It occasionally has a blender of early Grand Funk and Stooges vibe.  In that neighborhood, anyway.  Not on the same block, but they share the same Zip.  It didn't blow me away.  Nothing amazing.  But it's quite good.  Poobah only pressed 500 copies of "Let Me In" initially,  so a reissue was certainly warranted.

This 2021 reissue is a two-record gatefold with six original songs from the band's debut and ten bonus tracks of previously unreleased material from the same period.  And the bonus material is pretty strong.  In fact, I liked it just as much.  Overall, the album has a couple of gophers and one indulgent drum solo that interrupts a pretty good jam, but otherwise, the record is a lot of fun.  The wheat far outweighs the chaff and I'm glad I picked it up.

"Let Me In" - Poobah (back)

Favorites include "Mr. Destroyer" and "Bowleen" from the first record.  As for bonus tracks, "Make A Man Outta You" and "Upside Down Highway" are both a great way to dance.

My copy is on white-colored vinyl in nice polythene sleeves.  The back album cover has "2010 Ripple Music" printed near the bottom, but it's actually a 2021 pressing.  I don't know what's up with that. (♪ ♫ "What's up with that?  What's up with that?" ♫ ♪)  The vinyl also has a nice custom Poobah "vomiting man" label which is very cool.  As for the vinyl spin itself, it sounds really good. The record had a few rotation crackles, but a spin-clean seemed to do the trick.  I believe $26 brought this square to my house.
