TCCDM Pulls One Out..."Fraser & Debolt" - Fraser & Debolt (1971)

"Fraser & Debolt" - Fraser & Debolt (1971)

Upon examining the front cover, Fraser & Debolt's eponymous album gives no hint that it might be listed in the Acid Archives.  But in the Acid Archives she be.  Along with Ian Guenther and his amazing violin,  this duo created a wonder of a square.  Not necessarily a gem for everyone, but something magical is definitely going on here.

The music has been described as a mix of hippie country and acid folk, and although there is nothing psychedelic that I can specifically point a finger at, the cool vibes are in the air.  I don't know much about this Canadian duo, Allan Fraser and Daisy Debolt, but on their debut, they sound like a couple who have just fallen and trust each other unfettered.  Their hearts are still catching rainbows and falling stars, and the music keeps no secrets.  Fraser and Debolt sing together with reckless abandon.  The two have a bit of a Marty Balin/Grace Slick kind of thing going on.  Stylistically, anyway.  It's a balance beam at times, but it all works.

By accident or not, the "Fraser & Debolt" (w/Ian Guenther) album is a perfect example of where the whole is truly better than the sum of its parts.  Cherry-picking a song here is unfair to the artist, as well as to the listener.  I'll drop a track for everyone to taste, but it's an album where a single song just cannot represent them all.  Needle-drop to label is definitely the way to spend your time.

Favorites include:
"Gypsy Solitaire"
"Them Dance Hall Girls"
"Old Man On The Corner"
"Don't Let Me Down"

This album is not expensive, but it is a pretty hard one to find.  I purchased a used copy online, but I had to wait a while before I could find one that was shipped from here in the States.  My copy came from a seller in Seattle for $15 shipped.  It will cost you twice that if shipped from Canada.  It is an original Canadian pressing and sounds great.  As far as I know, there have been no reissues of this groovy titmouse.
