Lost Gem: "Poor Boy (The Greenwood)" - ELO

Image
" Sweet Maid Marion, don't you do me no wrong. Stay on the right side, the Greenwood is your home." -->ELO Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) released their fourth studio album in 1974. "Eldorado, A Sympho ny" was a concept album (don't be scared off) created all in the mind of the Swiss Army Knife of RnR... Jeff Lynne . In a nutshell, it revolves around a dreamer who'd rather live in his mind rather than be a part of the real world. It would become their first gold album. And sounds awesome through headphones. The last track on side one, "Poor Boy (The Greenwood)" is a wonderful song about Robin Hood for crying out loud. It makes me want to drink some grog...grab my bow...and shoot apples off Alan Hale's head! (one of my favorite actors and my Little John in Robin Hood reference). Oh yeah...dig those frantic violin strings at the end! Have you heard this one? "Poor Boy (The Greenwood)" Me, I'm just a poor boy from acro...

Lost Gem: Bloodrock - "Melvin Laid An Egg"

Image
"He's in a sideshow... making lots of dough. What can be said for Melvin and his egg?" ~ Bloodrock ~ Bloodrock's self-titled debut was r eleased in 197 0. And is a monster treat and a hugely underrated classic rock offering. Hailing from Fort Worth, Texas... Bloodrock need cower down to no band. As I've noted in an earlier post... On this one, Bloodrock ... O ut Steps...Steppenwolf. Out-Sabs...Black Sabbath. O ut-Funks...Grand Funk. I kid you not. And the epic closing track... "Melvin Laid An Egg" ...has one of the best axe riffs anywhere. Mindless heavy-metal poundag e...begging to be cranked. Bloodrock should have been huge...but have sadly and unfairly been relegated into the one-trick pony file... (remember "D.O.A." ). Pick this album up! Have you heard this one? "Melvin Laid An Egg" I ain't got the time to sit and let you play with my mind Crushing out m...

Lost Gem: Thin Lizzy - "Southbound"

Image
"So tonight after sundown you must go from this place. Without a tear, without a frown. Disappear without a trace." ~ Thin Lizzy ~ Thin Lizzy 's ... "Bad Reputation" (1977)...finds a gorgeous mid-tempo ballad penned by the late Phil Lynott ...and one of his best.   A bittersweet admonition of arriving at that personal point in life when something must change. A need to go another direction. A different place. A different face. The great guitar spirit from Scott Gorham provides this gem a wonderful touch of hope and turns what could have been a downturn into a celebration for change.   Just try not to sing along. Have you heard this one? "Southbound" The boom time it is over. A ghost town is all that's left here. The gold rush it is over And depression days draw near. Tonight after sundown I'm going to pack my case. I'll leave without a sound Disappear without a trace. I'm going southbound. Drifting like a drover. ...

Lost Gem: Ten Years After - "Working On The Road"

Image
"Well... I've seen the world and it's seen me. " ~ Ten Years After ~ Released in 1970... TYA's ... 'Cricklewood Green '...catches Alvin Lee and the gang...all balls to the wall and daring anyone to knock the proverbial "rock-chip" off their shoulders. Lost Gem:--> "Working On The Road" is one of two 'road' songs. This blues-rock gem is filled with solid classic axe & organ riffs with Lee's vocals up to the task. Have you heard this one? "Working On The Road" I've been working on the road about fifteen years Been blowing my mind, I've been blasting my ears Don't you know, babe? I've been sleeping all day and working all night I made a lot of money, but it don't feel right Don't you know, babe? Well, I've seen the world and it's seen me In a strange kind of way I guess I'm free Don't you know, babe? Well, I've seen it bad and I've seen it good But, now...

Ramblings: JT and His All-Request Saturday Night Show & Other Obs

Image
"I live my life the way that I choose. I'm satisfied, nothing to lose." --> Bad Company One of the best things to happen to Saturday night is... JT's All-Request Show. Delicious Classic Rock from various eras...mostly 60's & 70's & 80's...but certainly not exclusively. JT's radio show is mainly controlled by the listeners...via call-ins and emails. With the majority requesting all-kinds of wonderful lost gems and deep cuts. You may recognize the rock artist playing...but be pleasantly surprised by the sometimes unfamiliar spin slammin' through your speakers. It's a rock fans treat. But let there be no doubt...it is Ol' JT that makes this 6 hour music party a winner. Maybe ...because he's a little bit different. He's down-to-earth. One of the guys. And real. A simple lover of RnR. None of the blowhardy wisecracken dime-a-dozen DJ's you mostly hear while flipping around the dial. No over-the-top buffoon laugh...

Happy Father's Day

To my father and my father's father. I love you . Cat Stevens - "Father and Son " Father Its not time to make a change, Just relax, take it easy. You're still young, that's your fault, There's so much you have to know. Find a girl, settle down, If you want you can marry. Look at me, I am old, but Im happy. I was once like you are now, and I know that its not easy, To be calm when you've found something going on. But take your time, think a lot, Why, think of everything you've got. For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not. Son How can I try to explain, when I do he turns away again. Its always been the same, same old story. From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen. Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away. I know I have to go. Father Its not time to make a change, Just sit down, take it slowly. You're still young, that's your fault, There's so much you have to go through. Find a girl, settle dow...
